  1. pls edwin i want you to explain this. Why is that Tecno products especially the phantom series claim to have 16 Gigs of internal memory but the reality is that we can't install apps beyond 1Gig in internal memory

    1. Ok, not all Tecno phantoms claim to have up to 16Gigs, those that claims to have 16GB internal memory are Phantom A3, R7 and this their latest Phantom Z.

What happens is that out of the Internal memories of Tecno devices, they are being shared into 3 parts. So when you hear or see 4G or 16GB internal memory, you should know that they comprise the total internal memories of RAM, Internal storage and Phone storage. RAM often takes 1 to 2GB, then Internal storage takes mostly 1GB and the rest goes to the Phone storage.

The internal storage of 1GB is usually the storage used for just installations of apps and not for storage of apps, so whenever it get filled it will start telling you low internal memory, whereas you still have your phone storage memory.

The phone storage memory is the largest of the memories and act exaclty like your memory card, this is where you just store things like music, videos, or other uninstalled apps you downloaded or received. But here, you know that when downloading from PlayStore, you are always installing at the same time, so it goes to your internal memory which is mostly 1GB, that is why you are you are always short of memory. But if you receive files or apps via Bluetooth, you can choose not to install and it will just be on phone storage. Thought people download more on PlayStore than what they receive from others.

Finally is the RAM, the RAM memory which also makes up the internal memory in Tecno devices, are mostly 1 or 2GB in those Phantom devices. This is the working memory, the memory you use in doing every other things in your phone, and it comes very handy during multi tasking, when you have smaller RAM, multi tasking will be very slow.

      So that is just it.

  2. thanks edwin for your explanation. But i also observed that when the internal memory for installing apps is full and you try to move some to the memory card, not all of this apps actually move cos some residual data of the moved apps still remain in the phone's internal memory thereby making the internal memory to quickly get filled again and i will now uninstall some apps to free some space

    1. At the first place for you to be able to easily move apps from the internal memory to your memory card means that you have root access to do that, ie have rooted your Tecno android.

Yes you are right sometimes moving apps from one memory to the other as you said do leave some residual data or cached memory from where you are moving from.

So that is why it is advisable to use some memory freeing apps like simple defrag app for android to clear up some of these cached memories so you can have the lost space or memory back, and there are other apps too that does that apart from the one I just mentioned

  3. Thanks. My phone(phantom A3) is rooted and when i removed the residual(cached) data of my moved apps from internal memory & i try to open those moved apps, it's like those moved apps have lost their functional data thereby necessitating another download. So MY QUESTION IS: how can i install apps by DEFAULT in memory card so that one will not be restricted by the 1Gig of internal memory?

    1. If your android is showing you insufficient space then you can head to your file manager and clear log. i.e go and delete the folder that is named MTK Log on your file manager from your SD card

      Delete
