The evolution of phones keypads into touchscreen on-screen keyboard

10 years ago, it would have most probably resulted in an unending argument if you were told that that your phone with the then conventional keypads with buttons numbering 0 to 9 and alphabetical letters on each of them as well as other functional buttons which you press to either make calls, type in your text messages or play the few available phone games then, will in the near future be replaced almost entirely with phones (smartphones) without those keypads but rather with complete capacitive touchscreen keyboard that you tap to carry out those  functions and much more.

The evolution all started when popular phones then like the Nokia 3310, Samsung R20 etc. with those conventional keypads were gradually replaced with other mobile devices with QWERTY keyboard (Similar to PC keyboard layout).

As we may have it and as technology remains ever dynamic, further advancement gradually brought in what most people are presently using now, the capacitive touchscreen smartphones with on-screen keyboard.

And no doubt that this mobile touchscreen era has caused a tremendous decrease in the manufacture of both phones with conventional and QWERTY keypads

If you take time to look around, you will notice that most smartphones around you are all capacitive touchscreens and these phone manufacturers pay less attention now in developing  those conventional keypads and QWERTY keypads phones, they are rather channelling their efforts in producing these touchscreen phones that you tap the on-screen keyboard to carry out all your phone functions.

With the way things are going, I predict a near future where all the phone manufacturers will totally stop producing phones with conventional and QWERTY keypads and they will focus only on touchscreen phones as we have already started witnessing the proliferation of capacitive touchscreen phone in this era.

Mobile app developers are not left out in this one, in their continuous bid to follow trend, they are joining hand and now developing more app for touchscreen devices and also gradually developing lesser for those other categories of phones.

Finally, this is to say that as advance in technology is quickly sweeping all nook and cranny of mobile technology, it will be difficult for one to actually predict what the future holds and the type of keypads that next generation phones will be coming out with.
