Ford, the wonder auto makers takes a closer step to self-driving car by coming up with obstacle avoidance vehicle

Ford as we already know or for the benefit of those that don’t know is an American Automobile company founded by the famous Late Henry Ford.

When it comes to wonder cars, Ford has been in the forefront with technologies that always gives it vehicle magical functions.

In recent times, we have seen many of Ford’s magical car functions ranging from when it came up with a car that can park itself to lane keeping alert vehicle i.e. a car that vibrates its wheel as a means to alert the driver when it detects driver drifting out of a lane without using an indicator and also a Ford car that maybe after going for a shopping and one is hand loaded with packages, on the process of going to put the goods inside the booth of your Ford car, instead of dropping your hand loaded packages on the floor or trying to struggle with the opening of the booth considering your package laden hand, you can just tap the lower part of the booth with one of your legs, and the magic is done, the booth opens and you gradually place your goods inside your booth without any further difficulty.

All of the above are what Ford cars has been technologically designed to do, and more so Ford is not relenting and it seems they have a target in coming up with a self-driving car.

What a technology that will be when they finally achieve that! But one can easily argue that in this modern era, that technology behind self-driving car is long overdue coming from the angle that if US already have and make use of drones which is an unmanned aircraft, that self-driving car should no longer be seen as breathtaking technology when finally achieved.

But on the other hand, when talking about land transport or movement, we cannot all deny the fact that many obstacles abound on ground and most probably has been the major challenges facing the inception of total self-driving car.

Back to our major topic of discussion, Ford has taken another huge step toward self-driving car by coming up with and already seriously testing an obstacle avoidance vehicle that is capable of seizing the steering from the driver when it detects possible danger or obstacles that could result in collision. So the question here is how they were able to achieve such piece of technology with Ford car.

Ford uses a range of sensors to detect danger of collision. When it detects potential dangerous situation, which it does by scanning up to 200m ahead with the aid of 3 radars, a number of ultrasonic sensors and a camera installed in the car, it then alerts the driver with its additional built-in display and also gives a warning sound. If necessary, it applies the brake, checks for gap in the road ahead and steers to avoid crash.

So in a situation whereby an obstacle or pedestrian is coming across or in front of the vehicle even when the driver is oblivious of the incoming obstacle or pedestrian, it senses it and takes control of the steering if nothing is done by the driver to manoeuvre it.

More testing of this car is still going on and the launch date has not yet being announced.
