See Why I Finally Dumped My 3G Modem/Dongle From Windows 10

Prior to now, the commonest form of accessing the internet down here on Windows PC is by the use of Huawei or ZTE modem.

But as technology might have it, things are quickly changing and the use of 3G modem/dongles for internet access on our PCs are fast becoming history.

But that is not really the catch here but on the use of these 3G modem/dongles for internet access on Windows 10 PCs as many without 4G wireless device still do.

Most Windows 10 PC users know that Windows 10 is a data hungry monster and its data gulping propensity is even easily accentuated by the use of the conventional 3G modem on it, which allows endless Windows 10 background update that consumes loads of data.

Windows 10 was designed for automatic background updates whenever there is access to the internet and even when you decide to set up some Windows configurations that are supposed to arrest Windows 10 automatic background updates, at the sight of 3G Modem, most times these automatic updates are still triggered.

But your best bet and to cut Windows 10 data consumption while accessing the internet is to connect your Windows 10 PC via WIFI internet hotspot access and then set your PC WiFi connectivity to metered, and by so doing your Windows 10 PC will no longer continue automatic background download via the wireless setup.

For that reason, I finally dumped my 3G Huawei and Zte modem and now use only wireless connection on Windows 10 PC; and even if I am not with a wireless MiFi at any point in time, I simply insert the data bundle loaded SIM to my phone and then connect to PC via hotspot to WIFI tethering.
