If you shop online in Nigeria, then there is the highest tendency that you do shop from Konga or Jumia platform.

Konga and Jumia are undoubtedly the biggest online shopping store in Nigeria for large varieties of products, ranging in categories of electronics, fashions, cosmetics, home appliances, toys, books etc.

In Africa as a whole, they are still amongst the leading e-stores as they also operate in some Africa countries.

It is true that many of you shop on those two platforms and it is also true that many that shop on them know little or nothing about the brains (founders) behind those platforms.

Now I want you to see it like attending a secondary school without knowing even the name of the principal or going through university education without knowing the vice-chancellor.

In today’s post and for knowledge sake, we are going to be showing you the names and images of the founding fathers of those online shops that you shop from almost on daily bases; and we shall also be including the dates in which the two e-stores were founded.

Starting with Konga…Konga was founded in July 2012 by a Nigeria business mogul ‘Sim Shagaya’ who holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration of Harvard Business School.

Konga was started with 20 staff only and was initially a Lagos-only based e-store with fewer products until it gradually expanded to include larger categories and also included third party retail platform as you have them now. It has it’s headquarter in Lagos

For Jumia…like Konga, Jumia was also founded in 2012 but month of March, and unlike Konga with one Nigerian founder, Jumia was founded by two Nigerians Tunde Kehinde and Rapheal Afaedor.

Both Jumia founders are also holders of Master’s degree in Business Administration of Harvard Business School.

Aside Nigeria, Jumia also operates in 10 other Africa countries with large warehouse in each of these countries.

Jumia like Konga also at some point launched their marketplace for 3rd party sellers, enabling them expand more to reach more online shoppers.
